Central Virginia Hikes
Pine River Tiny House is nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. One of our favorite ways to spend a Saturday afternoon is hiking one of the many mountain trails nearby. For a good, heart pumping workout, we go for Crabtree Falls or Spy Rock. If we are feeling like taking it easy, we’ll opt for a chill day on the Virginia Railway Trail. We love to stop into Saunders Farm Market on our way out to grab some fresh, local produce for trail snacks.
Spy Rock
The views from Spy Rock are simply breathtaking. It's a short hike, but from the top you can see the Religious Range: The Priest, The Little Priest, The Friar, The Little Friar, and The Cardinal. The hike is part of the George Washington National Forest, and can easily be combined with nearby Crabtree Falls (300ft cascading waterfall with a hike to the top).
The entire trip is 3.1 miles. This is definitely a hike for locals, so it's never too crowded despite having probably the best views of the Blue Ridge around.

Crabtree Falls
Explore the largest cascading waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. This hike is great for both family and dogs, so bring the group. This is an approximately 4 mile roundtrip hike. It will usually take anywhere from 1-2 hours to get up, depending on your experience and who you have with you, and about an hour down.

Virginia Rail Trail
The Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail offers a quintessential rail-trail experience in central Virginia. The trail is an easy, picturesque ride through a beautiful, natural setting with plentiful opportunities to see unique historical sites.
The Piney and Tye rivers are constant companions, and you’ll cross five bridges on the seven-mile route, including a photo-worthy covered bridge at Naked Creek.
